My first patent – Design of a unique forceps for Laparoscopic surgeries

In college, I worked on the design, analysis and manufacturing of a Forceps device for Laparoscopic surgery. The forceps was unique because it combined the capability of gripping and doing suction – irrigation into a single device

I also got granted a patent for this work recently, years after college ended.

The complete repository of all the research done, design made and manufacturing plan developed is available if you reach out to me.

Since it’s been quite some time, it’ll be hard to describe everything in detail about this project.

However, here’s the complete progress on the project:

Looking back, the part I miss the most from my Mechanical Engineering was 3D design on SolidWorks. Lack of high paying design jobs in India without an international Masters degree was one of the reasons I switched to startups.

Times have changed though, and there are really cool design roles in startups, including some well paid ones, like at Ola.

There’s an interesting post I found out on LinkedIn where a design of the Storm Pegasus beyblade was made on Solidworks.

I’d love to make something similar but for Kai’s Dranzer some day!

And then maybe get it 3d printed too?
